I like moist, fudgy brownies, should I make any adjustments?
Krusteaz Fudge Brownie Mixes make delicious brownies that are very rich, fudgy and moist by following the directions on the package.
If I prefer a cake-like brownie, what adjustments should be made?
For a cake-like brownie, follow the package directions with the following adjustments. For the regular fudge brownie, add one extra egg to the batter. For the fat free brownie, increase hot water to 3/4 cup.
Can you describe the texture of the brownie batter?
The rich, thick batter is what makes our brownies so good. The batter is so thick and rich that you will need to spread it into the pan. The batter should not pour like a cake batter. For the regular fudge brownies, it is normal to see lumps in the batter. The fat free brownie batter will be thick and smooth. If you add extra water, your brownies will not be as rich, dense or moist.
How can I tell if the brownies are done?
Typically the edges of the regular fudge brownies will be slightly firm to the touch and the center will be soft. Bake the fat free brownies until the corner springs back when lightly touched. It is important not to overbake the brownies or they will become hard. As the brownies cool, they will continue to cook. Because our brownies are so thick and moist, using the toothpick method to check doneness will not give you an accurate indication.
Can I double the batch of brownies?
This is a popular question. Simply double the batch using two boxes of mix and bake in a 13x9x2 inch pan. For fat free brownies, bake at 300°F 30-35 minutes. For the regular fudge brownies, bake at 350°F 35-40 minutes.
Can I freeze the brownies?
Yes, baked brownies will freeze nicely for up to 3 months in a sealed, airtight container. Allow four hours to thaw at room temperature.
Can I add other ingredients to the brownies?
Adding approximately 1/2 cup dry ingredients such as nuts or flavored chips is fun and adds variety in flavor and texture. For additional ideas, click on Recipe Central.
Do you make a fat free brownie mix?
In response to customer requests for products low in fat or fat free, we have developed a delicious fat free brownie mix, Krusteaz Fat Free Fudge Brownie Mix. This mix makes a rich, chewy brownie without the fat!
Do your brownies contain caffeine?
There is an estimated 15 mg of caffeine in one brownie. Caffeine comes from the cocoa. The amount of caffeine in a Krusteaz brownie is very small when compared to a cup of coffee that contains approximately 60-80 mg.
Can I double the batch of lemon or key lime bars?
Simply double the batch using two boxes of mix and bake in a 13x9x2 inch pan. Bake as directed for single batch.
Can I freeze the pecan bars?
Yes. Allow the dessert to thoroughly cool, then securely wrap or place in an airtight container. The baked dessert will freeze nicely for up to 2 weeks in a sealed, airtight container. Remove from freezer and unwrap before thawing. Allowing the dessert to thaw while still wrapped may result in condensation and very soggy bars. Cut bars while they are still cold (slightly frozen) for best results. Note that frozen Pecan Bars will be somewhat softer and wetter than freshly baked Pecan Bars.
Can I freeze lemon or key lime bars?
Yes. Cut the baked, cooled dessert into bars and securely wrap or place in an airtight container. The baked bars will freeze nicely for up to 2 weeks in a sealed, airtight container. Allow four hours to thaw to room temperature. Thaw completely before dusting with powdered sugar.
What is the best way to store prepared desserts?
Cool the product completely after baking and store in an airtight container in the freezer or at room temperature. Do not store in the refrigerator because this will dry out the product. To serve frozen bakery products, allow products to thaw at room temperature, then warm, if desired.
For Lemon and Lime Bars, cool the product completely after baking and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. To serve frozen bakery products, allow products to thaw at room temperature, then warm, if desired.
What is the shelf life of your brownie and dessert mixes and how should I store them?
The key is proper storage. We recommend storing flour mixes in a cool (70ºF or below), dry environment. It is best to use the brownie mix within an 18-month period or the dessert mixes within a one-year period. The brownie and dessert mixes do not contain any perishable ingredients.
