Big Game Cheeseburger Turnovers

Big Game Cheeseburger Turnovers made using Krusteaz Garlic and Onion Flatbread Mix

If you’re looking for something new to serve at game day get-togethers that’s creative, but also totally doable, look no further! These Cheeseburger Turnovers feature a tasty golden crust, lots of cheesy goodness, and a surprise pickle chip inside for added flavor. They encompass that great comfort food appeal that we all love – especially on a crisp fall or winter day – in a toasty little snack that fits right in your hands while you’re kicking back on the couch. How convenient 😉

I used the brand new Garlic and Onion Flatbread Mix from Krusteaz® to make the dough for these turnovers, and you can check out the full recipe right here. And of course, you can always modify the filling recipe to your own taste! And while you definitely don’t need to throw a party to enjoy these, I couldn’t resist including a few football geared party ideas and free printables too.

SERVINGS

1 Package Krusteaz Garlic and Onion Flatbread Mix
1 Tsp Olive oil
1 Small onion, chopped
1 Clove garlic, minced
1 Lb Lean ground beef
1/3 Cup Ketchup
1 Tsp Seasoning salt
1 1/2 Cups Shredded cheddar cheese + extra for sprinkling
Pickle chips
Milk or egg wash
Prep tools:
4" circle cookie cutter
Large cutting board dusted with flour
STEP 1

Preheat oven to 475°F.

STEP 2

Prepare Krusteaz Garlic and Onion Flatbread Mix according to package directions, and let dough rise for 20 minutes.

STEP 3

While dough is rising, heat 1 teaspoon oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Add the onions and garlic, stirring occasionally for 3-4 minutes or until onions are soft. Add the ground beef to the skillet, using a wooden spoon to break up the meat until well browned and crumbled. Drain the excess liquid from the pan. Stir in the seasoning salt, ketchup, and cheese. Set mixture aside to cool.

STEP 4

Pat the flatbread dough out on a well-floured cutting board. If desired, use a rolling pin to help level the dough. Cut circles of dough out with the 4" cookie cutter. Spoon about a tablespoon of the cheeseburger mixture onto each circle of dough, then set a pickle chip on top of the mixture. Fold one side of the dough over the filling to create a half-circle shape. Press and flute the dough edges together to seal. Brush each turnover with milk or egg wash, then sprinkle lightly with extra cheddar.

STEP 5

Bake the turnovers 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
