How to Spice Up Krusteaz® Cornbread

But sometimes you want something a little more than just the traditional cornbread. Instead of starting from scratch, you can add ingredients to either our southern or honey cornbread batter to make an unforgettable side dish bursting with flavor.

1. Green Chile (or Jalapenos) & Cheddar Cheese
Give your cornbread a spicy kick by adding 1/4 cup chopped green chiles or jalapenos and 1/2 cup cheddar cheese. Want to really turn up the heat? Instead of green chiles or jalapeno peppers, add 3 tablespoons of serrano peppers.
2. Peaches & Brown Sugar
Add the sweet taste of summer to your cornbread. Peel and chop 2 fresh peaches and gently stir into the batter. Add 2 tablespoons of light brown sugar.
3. Parmesan Cheese & Herbs
This flavorful cornbread is perfect for dunking in soups. Stir in 1/2 cup grated parmesan, 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh basil, and 2 tablespoons of parsley.
4. Apples & Maple Syrup
Enjoy apple cornbread as a sweet side dish or as dessert! Add 1 1/2 cups peeled, chopped apples and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup. Don’t like maple syrup? Swap it out for ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon.
5. Bacon, Green Onion & Pepper Jack Cheese
Chop up 6 strips of cooked bacon and toss into your mixing bowl. Add 3/4 cup shredded pepper jack cheese and 1/4 cup of chopped green onion. If you’re not a fan of pepper jack cheese, try cheddar cheese instead.
6. Corn & Chives
Extra corn adds a boost of flavor and a bit of texture to cornbread. Add 1 1/2 cups fresh or drained corn and 2 tablespoons of dried chives.
