Classic Cutout Sugar Cookies

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened

1 egg

1 package Krusteaz Butter Vanilla Sugar Cookie Mix

1/2 cup all-purpose flour


Buttercream Frosting:

4 ½ cups (16 oz) powdered sugar

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened

3 tablespoons milk

2 teaspoons vanilla

Food color (optional)

  1. // Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. // For Cookies: In medium bowl, stir together butter or margarine and egg. Add Krusteaz Butter Vanilla Sugar Cookie Mix and flour. Stir until dough forms, hand kneading if necessary. Transfer dough to floured surface. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with floured cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  3. // Bake 8-11 minutes or until light golden brown around edges. Cool completely before icing and decorating.
  4. // For Frosting: Place frosting ingredients in medium bowl. Using an electric mixer, mix on low speed until well blended and smooth. Add food color, starting with just a few drops until desired shade is reached.
