Why use a Krusteaz® Muffin Mix?

Our muffin mixes are made from quality ingredients. Open a box, and within minutes you can have a pan of muffins baking in the oven, filling your home with the sweet aroma of made-at-home baked treats. When you make Krusteaz®, you save on time without compromising deliciousness. Now, all you have to decide is which muffin mix will you choose?

Gently Mix the Muffin Batter

When making muffins, the key to a light and fluffy texture is to avoid under – or overmixing the batter. Follow the box directions by adding the water, oil, and eggs to the muffin mix and gently stir until the dry mix is moistened. This usually takes about 12-15 turns with a mixing spoon or spatula. Do not use an electric mixer because it will overmix your batter, resulting in dense muffins. It’s okay for the batter to be lumpy.

Paper Baking Cups vs. Greasing the Pan

We recommend lining your muffin pan with paper baking cups, but you can forego the liners and grease the pan with a little butter or cooking oil spray. Here’s how each method affects the muffin:

  • Paper Baking Cups: softer sides and a slightly taller muffin
  • Greased Pan: darker, crisper sides and a slightly shorter muffin

Add the Batter to Pan

We recommend filling each muffin pan cup about 2/3 full. Try using a 1/4-cup or 1/3-cup measure, depending on the size of your pan, to make consistently sized muffins. If you overfill the muffin tin, the muffin may rise too high and spill onto the top of the pan.

When Are the Muffins Done?

Muffins are done when the center springs back when lightly touched or when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Don’t have a toothpick? Use a fork or a butter knife to test the center. Once your muffins are done, pull them out of the oven and let them cool in the pan 5-10 minutes before removing. Gluten-free muffins only have to sit for 2 minutes before being removed from the pan.

Time to Eat

Now you’ve gotten to the best part. You get to eat your tasty, homemade muffins. Pour a glass of milk or a cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and enjoy. When you start with Krusteaz®, you know it’s going to be delish.

Muffin FAQs

Can I use milk instead of water to make muffins?

We recommend using water; however we know that some Makers prefer to use milk to make muffins. Using milk can change the texture of the muffin to be more like a cupcake.

How can I store leftover muffins?

Store muffins in a single layer, in a plastic or glass airtight container that is higher than the crown of the muffin. Freeze muffins when storing for more than one day. Thaw before serving or reheating. Reheat in microwave, on high power for 10-15 seconds.

Can I make more than muffins with a Krusteaz® mix?

You sure can! Our muffin mixes provide the perfect foundation to make incredibly delicious baked goods that take no time at all. Try the Raspberry Cinnamon Bundt®* Cake, the Cranberry Orange Roulade, or the Blueberry Breakfast Cookies, all made with Krusteaz® muffin mixes.
